Medellín Highlands, Colombia
3, 7, or 14 days
Spend several days inside the rhythm of a working flower farm in the hills outside Medellín, where beauty begins long before the bouquet. Over the course of a few days or a few weeks, you will move beyond admiration and into participation — walking the fields, learning how flowers are planted, cut, sorted, conditioned, and arranged, sharing meals with your hosts, and experiencing floral work not as decoration, but as labor, timing, and care.
This is not a polished floral workshop. It is an apprenticeship rooted in seasonality, repetition, physical work, and close attention. For those drawn to beauty, craftsmanship, and the hidden life behind what seems effortless, it offers something rare: the chance to encounter flowers at their source, through the hands, land, and daily discipline that bring them into bloom.
Overview
Set in the highlands near Medellín, this apprenticeship invites you into the daily life of a working flower farm. Your days unfold alongside growers, caretakers, and floral workers, with time spent learning how flowers are cultivated, harvested, prepared, and handled with precision. You will learn by doing where possible, by observing closely where needed, and by remaining in close proximity to the full rhythm of the farm.
For many, flowers are something received, purchased, or displayed. Here, they become the day itself.
What You’ll Do
Each stay follows the rhythm of the farm and the season.
You may begin your mornings with a simple breakfast before heading into the fields or work areas where the day’s activity is already underway. Depending on timing, you may help with planting, tending, cutting, sorting stems, preparing flowers for storage or transport, and learning how freshness, timing, and handling affect quality. Some days may involve more physical tasks outdoors; others may center more on preparation, arrangement, observation, and understanding the many small decisions that shape what is ultimately sold or displayed.
Throughout the experience, you will be in close proximity to the people who make the farm possible — growers, family members, floral workers, and others connected to the life of the property. This offers a more grounded understanding of the human side of floriculture and the care, repetition, and judgment behind its beauty.
Depending on timing, length of stay, and the needs of the season, the experience may also include exposure to bouquet making, floral composition, local flower traditions, or the wider day-to-day life surrounding the farm.
Who This Is For
This experience is for travelers who want more than scenery.
It is for those who are curious about how beauty is made and maintained. For those drawn to slow, meaningful travel. For those who want to exchange passive admiration for participation, and return home with not just photographs, but perspective.
No prior flower or farming experience is required. What matters most is curiosity, openness, and a willingness to take part.
The Setting
The hills outside Medellín offer an ideal backdrop for this kind of apprenticeship: cool air, green slopes, changing light, and landscapes shaped by cultivation and tradition. Outside your time on the farm, the region opens into mountain views, villages, local markets, and one of Colombia’s most vibrant cultural areas.
The apprenticeship is grounded in work, but the destination gives it room to breathe.
Why Book This
Because there is a difference between admiring beauty and understanding the life behind it.
Most people encounter flowers as a finished gesture — arranged, wrapped, and ready to be enjoyed. Few experience the labor behind them: the early mornings, the weather, the delicate handling, the repetition, the visual judgment, and the steady care that make beauty possible. This apprenticeship offers a way into that world.
Not as a spectator. As a participant.
