FAQs
What makes these apprenticeships worth traveling for?
Because they offer something increasingly rare: the chance to enter someone else’s world with intention.
An apprenticeship is not just an activity you check off on a trip. It is a way of seeing how another person works, thinks, creates, or moves through life. It offers perspective, presence, and the kind of experience that tends to stay with you long after you return home.
Is this more like a class, or more like travel?
Neither, exactly. It sits somewhere more interesting in between.
An apprenticeship is not a standard lesson, and it is not passive tourism. It is a lived experience built around access, observation, participation, and perspective. The point is not simply to learn a skill, but to get close to a world that is usually only seen from the outside.
Who usually books these experiences?
People looking for something more meaningful than conventional travel.
Some are in search of inspiration. Some are at a turning point in life or work. Some are curious about a particular profession, craft, or way of life. Others simply want to travel in a way that feels more human, intimate, and real.
Is this for beginners, or do I need experience?
No prior background is required. Many guests arrive with curiosity and little else.
Some come with a long-standing interest in a particular field. Others are simply drawn to the idea of learning through immersion. What matters most is openness, attentiveness, and a genuine willingness to step into something unfamiliar.
Who are the hosts?
They are people deeply rooted in what they do.
Some come from traditional crafts, others from hands-on trades, culinary worlds, agriculture, design, hospitality, wellness, or other fields shaped by skill and practice. What connects them is not a single profession, but depth, commitment, and a willingness to share their world with others.
How long do apprenticeships usually last?
They vary, but many are designed to unfold over more than a single day.
That is part of their appeal. Time allows you to move beyond surface impressions and into rhythm, repetition, conversation, and practice. The goal is not to rush through an itinerary, but to spend enough time close to a way of working that it begins to reveal something deeper.
Will I still have time to explore on my own?
Yes. Most apprenticeships are structured with room to breathe.
The experience is meant to be immersive, but not consuming. You will usually still have time to wander, rest, eat well, and enjoy the destination beyond the apprenticeship itself.
Are these private experiences?
In many cases, yes. Some apprenticeships are designed as one-on-one or private experiences, while others may allow for a companion or small group, depending on the host and format.
The experience page will indicate what to expect, and any details can be clarified before confirmation.
Can I share what I’m hoping to get out of it?
Absolutely.
If there is a particular interest, question, or intention you are bringing with you, you will usually have the chance to share that after booking. It helps the experience feel more personal and gives your host a better sense of what you are hoping to learn or encounter.
What exactly is included in the price?
Each apprenticeship is different, but the price generally covers the host’s time, guidance, and the experience itself, along with any materials, tools, or access specifically mentioned in the listing.
Travel expenses such as flights, accommodation, meals, local transport, insurance, and visas are typically not included unless clearly stated.
Do hosts provide accommodation?
Sometimes, but not always.
A few hosts may offer a place to stay or have a preferred accommodation arrangement nearby. In most cases, guests arrange their own lodging. If accommodation is part of the experience, it will be clearly noted.
What languages do hosts speak?
That depends on the host and the destination.
Whenever possible, language information will be listed on the experience page. And while sharing a spoken language can certainly help, many apprenticeships are also built on observation, gesture, demonstration, and presence. Not everything meaningful needs to be over-explained.
Can I request dates that aren’t listed?
Yes. If your preferred dates are not shown, you are welcome to send a request.
We will do our best to coordinate with the host’s schedule. Availability depends on the realities of their work and daily life, but we always try to accommodate thoughtful requests when possible.
What happens after I book?
Once your apprenticeship is confirmed, you will receive everything you need to prepare well.
That may include practical details such as meeting information, schedule notes, what to bring, where to stay, and any context that will help you arrive ready for the experience.
What if my plans change?
Because hosts reserve real time in their schedules, cancellation and rescheduling policies matter.
The exact terms should be outlined clearly at checkout or in your booking terms. In general, changes made well in advance are easier to accommodate, while last-minute cancellations are more difficult once time has been set aside for you.
Do I need travel insurance or a visa?
Guests are responsible for checking visa requirements based on their nationality and destination.
Travel insurance is also strongly recommended. As with any international journey, it is wise to be prepared.
What if I’m drawn to a destination or profession that isn’t on the site yet?
That kind of curiosity is always welcome.
We are constantly expanding our network of hosts and experiences. If there is a place, field, or apprenticeship you would love to see, feel free to reach out. It may help shape what we build next.
